Beacon ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Beacon mobile application (the "App") and related services. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

By using Beacon, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

Information you provide

  • Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo.
  • Profile data: Information you add to your profile, such as your display name and avatar.
  • Festival preferences: Events you RSVP to, artists you favorite, and schedules you create.
  • User content: Any content you submit through the App, such as feedback or support messages.

Information collected automatically

  • Location data: With your permission, we collect your device's location to show your position on festival maps and help you find friends on-site. You can disable location sharing at any time through your device settings.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
  • Usage data: How you interact with the App, including features used, pages viewed, and actions taken.
  • Crash and performance data: Diagnostic information to help us identify and fix issues.

Information from third parties

  • Authentication providers: If you sign in using a third-party service (such as Apple or Google), we receive basic profile information from that service.
  • Music services: If you connect a music streaming service, we may access your listening data to personalize artist recommendations. We do not store your streaming credentials.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App
  • Create and manage your account and authenticate your identity
  • Display festival schedules, maps, and artist information relevant to you
  • Enable social features such as finding friends at festivals and sharing schedules
  • Show your location on festival maps (only when you have granted location permission)
  • Personalize your experience, including artist and schedule recommendations
  • Send you notifications about schedule changes, stage swaps, and other festival updates you have opted into
  • Respond to your requests and support inquiries
  • Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve the App's functionality and user experience
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your data in the following circumstances:

  • With festival organizers: Aggregated, anonymized usage data may be shared with festival organizers to help them improve their events. This data does not identify you personally.
  • With other users: Your profile name and location may be visible to friends you have connected with through the App. You control who can see your location through the App's privacy settings.
  • Service providers: We share data with third-party vendors who help us operate the App (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App's services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes.

Location data is ephemeral and is not stored after your festival session ends. Crash and diagnostic data is retained for up to 90 days.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security assessments.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data. You can delete your account directly in the App under Settings.
  • Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Opt out of marketing: You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the link in the email or through the App's notification settings.
  • Location: You can disable location sharing at any time through your device's settings. The App will continue to function without location access, but map and friend-finding features will be limited.
  • Push notifications: You can manage push notification preferences through your device settings or within the App.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

9. Third-Party Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services (such as music streaming platforms or ticketing providers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with your information.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you through the App or by email.

Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
